How about We Don’t Watch That | Summer Anime 2023

With so many new titles every season, knowing what to choose can be a hassle. Let us take the decision out of your hands by removing all the trash from the selection! Here are 14 anime that you can happily ignore this summer.

(In this list I will not be including continuing animes, OVAs, and movies.)

  1. My Happy Marriage (Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon)

The vibes of the trailer gave “Love in the Time of Cholera” but replace cholera with Imperial Japan. I doubt it would be worth the watch since it’s not my kind of anime. But if you’re into women trying to find solace in a marriage with a man, of hinging all their hopes on said marriage, then this anime is for you. Definitely not for me. It will be available on Netflix.

  1. Liar Liar

The premise of the show is that the main character is being helped to cheat at some kind of game. It’s like cheat codes and mods have not crossed their minds, or maybe they did, but the premise alone is not interesting enough for me to want to watch even one episode.

  1. Classroom for Heroes (Eiyuu Kyoushitsu)

Hard pass. From the poster alone it’s possibly an Isekai with a harem. Not my vibe, never has been my vibe.

  1. The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist (Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha)

This one gave dating sim vibes, and I have been burned by Doki Doki Literature Club; I never want to watch from the point of view of a budding incel, so I’ll spare myself the harm this anime could inflict me.

  1. Reborn as a Vending Machine, I now Wander the Dungeon (Jidou Habiki ni Umarekawatta ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou)

It’s one of those isekai with a ridiculous name. It seems dumb, yet it might be fun. But so far it just seems like ad placement, so it’s not worth the watch for me.

  1. Atelier Ryza : Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout (Ryza no Atelier: Tokoyami no Joou to Himitsu no Kakurega)

I thought maybe Atelier was her name since we don’t see her atelier (workshop) at any point in the trailer, but that’s just me being confused. But what made me not want to watch this anime is the camera pans and the fits. None of it passed the vibe check. Like, why are we first at her crotch? Bizarre.

  1. Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence (Shiro Seijo to Kuro Bokushi)

The character designs give off, “What even is research?” Whoever designed the characters saw a couple of medieval paintings of saints and that’s it. This is not problematic, but not great for me. As a former catholic, I wouldn’t want to watch this. Considering they could have done better, it also feels a little insulting, not gonna lie.

  1. Helck the Hero

Big, strong, human dude is a hero, ok. And he’s not the brightest bulb, ok. Not enough for me, though. Pass.

  1. Temple

Again with the incel surrounded by potential romantic partners. Not for me. Bye.

  1. The Great Cleric (Seija Musou: Salaryman Isekai de Ikinokoru Tame ni Ayumu Michi)

Must I say it out loud? it’s an isekai with a meh premise; not going to watch it.

  1. Level 1 Demon and One Room Hero (Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha)

This isekai also doesn’t pass the vibe check. With the boring dark haired main character and every flavor of girl/woman to be his supporting character. Not for me.

  1. Synduality Noir

It’s mecha, and for that reason alone I will not watch it.

  1. Bang Dream It’s MyGo

I am not willing to watch this amount of CGI for this anime.

  1. Am I Actually the Strongest? (Jitsu wa ore Saikyou Deshita?)

A show with a demon king baby? I’m intrigued. I watched the first episode since it was already out. And Hard no. The first lines the Fenrir speaks to the baby in their human form are criminal. I will not repeat them because—yuck. Do not watch it; I didn’t even finish the episode.

What new anime will you be watching this season?
